BYD SONG PLUS DM-i 2026: What Overseas Buyers Should Verify

BYD Mexico currently markets the SONG PLUS DM-i as a 2026 model, but BYD pages in the Middle East & Africa and the Caribbean list SONG PLUS DM-i without establishing one globally identical 2026 specification. The Caribbean site also offers both LHD and RHD versions. For an export buyer, that means the model name is only the starting point.

The 2026 badge is not a universal global specification

Before comparing price or equipment, identify the exact VIN, build date, steering side, sales market, trim and the official specification sheet that belongs to that vehicle. Keep the existing 2026 URL for search continuity, but do not describe every SONG PLUS DM-i offered worldwide as one universal 2026 configuration.

Use published specifications as market-bound reference data

A recent official BYD Chile specification sheet provides one useful reference configuration: five seats, 4,705 mm length, 1,890 mm width, 1,670 mm height and a 2,765 mm wheelbase. It lists front-wheel drive, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine rated at 96 kW and 220 N·m, a front electric motor rated at 150 kW and 300 N·m, and an 18.3 kWh Blade LFP battery.

The same sheet lists 105 km of EV range and 1,105 km total range under NEDC, Type 2 AC charging up to 5.6 kW, a 0–100 km/h time of 8.3 seconds, 235/50 R19 tyres, 552 litres of cargo capacity and a 1,900 kg kerb weight. BYD Mexico also currently advertises the 2026 SONG PLUS DM-i with NEDC figures and a 5.1 L/100 km low-fuel-consumption headline.

Those figures are valuable for comparison, but they are not a promise that a vehicle sourced from another market has the same battery, charging hardware, curb weight, software or equipment. Put the quotation beside the market-specific official sheet and match line by line.

The PHEV advantage depends on how the vehicle will actually be used

The SONG PLUS DM-i is a plug-in hybrid SUV, so the procurement case is different from both a pure EV and a conventional petrol SUV. Its electric range and fuel-efficiency claims depend on the test cycle, battery state of charge, route, climate, payload and how often the vehicle is plugged in.

For a buyer with reliable home, depot or workplace charging, the PHEV system can reduce fuel use on regular short trips while keeping petrol range for longer routes. For a fleet that rarely charges, the headline EV range becomes much less relevant. Before buying, check local electricity supply, plug type, charging power, fuel grade, workshop capability and how the vehicle will be driven in real service.

Older or regional stock can be materially different

Visually similar SONG PLUS DM-i vehicles should not be assumed to share the same technical package. An older official BYD Brazil MY23 sheet, for example, listed an 8.3 kWh battery and different power figures. That historical document is not a current global specification, but it is important evidence for used-car and old-stock buyers: the badge alone does not tell you the battery or powertrain version.

If a supplier offers a discounted or used unit, ask for a dated specification sheet and photos of the VIN plate, charging inlet, engine compartment, battery labels and instrument information. This is more reliable than copying specifications from the newest version found online.

Safety ratings must match the actual vehicle identity

ANCAP publishes a safety rating for the BYD SEALION 6 PHEV sold in Australia and New Zealand. ANCAP explains that the rating applies to those PHEV variants and was supported by additional PHEV crash testing. That is useful safety evidence for the vehicle family, but it should not automatically be attached to every SONG PLUS DM-i sold in another market.

Warranty, parts and connected functions can depend on the sales channel

After-sales support is not a minor detail on a modern PHEV. In a June 2025 statement covering several Caribbean markets, BYD said that only customers purchasing through its authorised distributor are guaranteed manufacturer warranty, genuine parts/accessories and certified servicing in those named markets. BYD also warned that non-official purchases may lose certain connected functions such as app connectivity, OTA updates or infotainment features.

What to verify before paying a deposit

A serious quotation should identify the exact vehicle, not just “SONG PLUS DM-i 2026.” Before payment, match the VIN to the vehicle, official market specification and commercial documents.

Who is the SONG PLUS DM-i a sensible export choice for?

The model can make sense for buyers who want a five-seat SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and who operate in markets where both petrol supply and regular charging are practical. It can also suit dealers that need an alternative between a full EV and a conventional ICE SUV.

Frequently asked questions

Safety ratings must match the actual vehicle identity

For an export order, verify the body code, production range, restraint equipment and destination approval separately. A crash rating is evidence about the tested or listed vehicle; it is not by itself an import approval certificate for your destination country.

Warranty, parts and connected functions can depend on the sales channel

That statement is market-specific and must not be generalized to every country. Its procurement lesson is broader: parallel-import buyers should obtain written confirmation for warranty territory, diagnostic access, software/OTA support, keys, app activation, charging equipment and parts availability before shipment.

What to verify before paying a deposit

Verify the build date and trim; LHD or RHD; engine and electric-motor version; battery capacity and chemistry; charging inlet and AC/DC capability; test cycle used for range figures; tyre and load ratings; safety equipment; warranty territory; connected-services availability; destination type-approval or registration requirements; spare-parts and diagnostic support; and which party pays for any required adaptation. If the VIN, market version, warranty route or destination acceptance is still unresolved, treat the vehicle as unverified rather than filling the gap with a specification copied from another country.

Who is the SONG PLUS DM-i a sensible export choice for?

The decision becomes weaker when the destination lacks compatible charging, reliable BYD diagnostics, parts supply or a clear warranty pathway. In those cases, a lower purchase price can be offset by after-sales risk. The right SONG PLUS DM-i is therefore not simply the one with the longest advertised range; it is the exact version whose technical identity and support path have been verified for the destination market.
